Dr Konrad Czernichowski

Konrad Czernichowski (PhD) is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maria Curie-Skłodowska (UMCS) in Lublin and a Visiting Scholar at Jordan University College (JUCo) in Morogoro, Tanzania. He earned his Doctorate in Economics from the University of Economics in Wrocław, Poland. His research revolves around the African integration, especially within the East African Community. He has visited 13 African countries. He has lived and worked in Africa (mostly in Tanzania) for five years, altogether. He is a board member of the Polish Africanist Society. His publications include seven authored, co-authored or co-edited books on Africa as well as over 50 articles and book chapters.
In the academic year 2024/25 Dr. Konrad Czernichowski was the manager of the project “Preparation for studies in Polish”, implemented in Morogoro within the Polish Language Promotion Program of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange. In the years 2020-2025 as the co-ordinator of the Erasmus exchange between UMCS and JUCo he helped 16 students of JUCo to study at UMCS for a whole semester. Moreover, he is involved in the “Maitri” Movement that helps the poor in Africa. He has received various awards including the Silver Cross of Merit from the President of Poland (2021) and the UMCS Rector’s Award (2024). Since 2022, once a year, he has been organizing at Jordan University College a FIDE-rated international chess tournament called “Jordan Open”, attracting, among others, the top Tanzanian chess players.
